To see the manatees

I remember a few of my elementary field trips: Red Mountain Museum, Birmingham Zoo, Huntsville Space & Rocket Center, Constitution Village. They were fun, really. Today, I was able to experience with my little girl, something new & exciting. We traveled by bus with all of her fellow kindergartners at her school to see the manatees.

Once we arrived, we had lunch. You know, because at 10:50 these kids were hungry already (and 7 minutes late having lunch, too).

Next, there was playground time. Someone always ends up crying, and it was sweet to see these girls (Ella Grace & Megan) try to console her. I hope they always have that spirit about them.

This park has canoes you can rent and a boat you can cruise the river on. It wasn't long before we began to see the manatees in the river. They were a little difficult to spot at first, but then you could see lots of them at a time.

This is one of my favorite pictures. The manatee is spraying water.

Ella Grace only stayed with me and another friend for a little while, then trailed off to join one of her teachers. I think Ella Grace held her hand for the majority of the visit! Her teacher even said "Ella Grace, I don't think we've held hands this much all year!"

We had a bus full of tired kids when we pulled back in at school. What a fun field trip this was!

Her first field trip

Have you ever seen someone this happy to ride a school bus?

Ella Grace has ALWAYS loved buses and couldn't wait to ride one. Way back when I was at home on bedrest with Major she would watch the school bus pick up kids in our neighborhood with Nana and me, and boy would she wave and watch! It was the highlight of her mornings back then! She did ride the Crimson Ride with Mr. Landon and Mrs. Ashley - but it wasn't a yellow cheeser, either!

Tuesday, baby girl went on her first field trip as a kindergartener. They took a trip to the local Publix. You should have heard the cheers on the bus when the driver pulled into the shopping center!

We went through the meat department - saw how meat is cut, packaged and labeled. We walked through a couple of coolers (meat and dairy), saw inside the produce cooler.

Have you ever wondered what we look like in hair nets? Well, you are in luck!

We saw how they cut & core pineapple and even got to sample a bite!
And at the bakery we watched a small cake get iced...so fun!

The pharmacist showed the kids how similar medicine and candy look.
And what field trip is complete without a picnic lunch and some park time?

It was a great day, really.

I was thankful I was able to go, and thankful for Major's girlfriend's momma for letting me drop him off with her and for being available to pick him up. Luckily I was there just in time to get him, though.
